Abstract
The importance of this study arises from discussing the impact of physical factors "geography and natural resources" as well as human factors "population, religion, and social forces" on drawing up the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia, with focusing on international and regional dimensions, taking into consideration the spiritual and religious position of Saudi Arabia in Islamic world. The nature of foreign policy in Saudi Arabia and the factors that affect it were considered as the research problem, out of that, the study went into analysis to identify the basis of foreign policy in Saudi Arabia. Different assumptions have been adopted to provide answers to the study problem, among which was the huge size of Saudi Arabia territory, its strategic location and oil based economy, these factors were greatly believed to shape the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia compared to other neighboring countries. In its endeavors to achieve its national interests at the international arena, the study assumed that Saudi Arabia has followed a course of the foreign policy that is characterized with flexibility, realism and pragmatism. To come out with certain results and suggestions to develop a foreign policy that is capable of influencing the current world order towards peaceful settlement of international disputes, combating all forms of terrorism, respecting principles of international law and human rights, and tackling international disputes. The study has followed a combined methodology; a historical approach was adopted in reviewing the history of foreign policy in Saudi Arabia among different periods, while an analytical approach was followed to analyze and examine events and assumptions of the study
