Abstract

This study is mainly concerned with the possible positive and negative impacts of the Sudan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the main query of this study is to examine to extent to which the terms or conditions of accession to the WTO will impact on the Sudan economic system. The study used the historical method in discussing the development of the international trading order, the establishment of WTO, and also used the descriptive analytical method in analyzing the terms of accession to WTO and their reflections or impacts on the Sudan as one of the less developed countries. Data necessary for the discussion of the research problem was collected through interviews and consultation of official documents and reports. Following the analysis the study found out that Sudan will face many profound challenges in dealing with the WTO. These challenges have economic, social and political dimensions as Sudan has to offer concessions by opening doors for foreign goods and multinational companies to prevail on the national markets, lift laws and institutes that restrict trade and to implement large economic liberalization policies; and the study concluded that Sudan should make essential changes in the economic policies to mitigate the negative impacts of accession o the WTO beside, preparation should be made for avoiding the serious social negative impact that will be resulted from accession to the WTO
