Abstract
The research is aimed at determining the extent of meeting
motives and needs of employees of White Nile Petroleum
Operating Company Ltd. the reasons of job dissatisfaction. This
is done through studying work environment at the company and
the policies of development and upgrading of employees and the
application of incentive system and its efficiency.
The researcher adopted for the purpose of the study the
analytical descriptive approach, based on case study. The
research comprises two parts: the theoretical framework and the
field study. It comprises four chapters as follows:
Chapter I is an introduction which included a prelude to the
problem of the research, the research hypothesis, the importance
of the research and the research objectives.
Chapter II of the study deal with the theoretical framework of
the research. It comprises three parts. Part one discusses work
motives and theories that deals with work motives, part two
deals with incentives, part three comprises job satisfaction as
basic concepts and theories deals with job satisfaction;
Chapter III is dedicated for the field study, which comprises
three parts. Part one deals with foundation and progress of
White Nile Petroleum Operating Company, while part two
tackles the internal work environment in the company and part
three discusses the policies of development of the company’s
employees, who constitute the population of the research. And
Chapter IV includes the recommendation and conclusions.
The researcher selected for the purpose of the study a strata
random sample of 23 employees, who constitute 50% of the
national population of the company. The sample represents all
the administrative levels in the company.
The researcher used a questionnaire for collecting data. She also
conducted interviews with some direct-hire staff. For the
purpose of analyzing data satisfactorily, the researcher used the
descriptive statistical approach and the statistical analysis
program, SPSS.
It was concluded that the motives of the employees have not
been met, a matter that resulted in their job dissatisfaction due to
the following reasons:
Lack of conducive internal work environment as
regards of supervision and work relations;
The disorder of the system of incentive applied in the
company;
Inadequacy of the implementation and follow-up of
policies of the development and upgrading of
employees.
In light of the findings of the study, the researcher recommends
working for improvement of the internal work environment in
the company to create a conducive atmosphere for performance
and to increase the level of job satisfaction among the
employees as well as amending the system of incentives, the
system of evaluation of performance, the terms of service and
providing fair incentives to creative and distinguished
employees
