Abstract
Depression as a common problem among elderly was assessed among Sudanese elderly at household level. A cross – sectional household survey was conducted in six areas at Khartoum State. Two stage stratified sampling was conducted, at first to select the localities and then the areas using simple random sampling and then systematic random sampling was used to select the households. The result revealed, that the prevalence of depression was (47.5%). Depression was significantly associated with age (P=0.002), level of education (P=0.015), occupation (P = <0.001), the living problem (P = 0.026), and social problems (P = <0.001). It was concluded that after controlling of confounders using multiple logistic regression, that depression, was four times more among elderly retired compared to the elderly on job and it was three times more among elderly with social problems and and those who were suffering from urine incontinence and twice among elderly with living problem.
