dc.description.abstract This study is based on a field survey conducted in both the Gezira and Khashm el Girba schemes in 1972. The problems and bottlenecks of production of wheat in Gezira and Khashm el Girba were investigated. The cost of production in these areas and the profitability of the crop are estimated. The presented pattern of wheat consumption in the Sudan is investigated with a view to planning and future prospects. The idea of wheat as a future import substitute within the theory of comparative advantage and allocation of resources is evaluated. An efficient extension scheme is recommended to increase yields to a profitable level. en_US
