dc.description.abstract | The present study was carried out to investigate the toxic effect of potassium bromate on Wistar albino rats . Thirty rats were divided into 5 groups and treated with potassium bromate at doses of 0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight respectively for 21 days . The mortality was 100% in ratstreated with 400 mg/kg Bwt. In rats treated with 100 and 200 mg/kg Bwt a significant increase was observed in the activity of alanine transaminase (ALT), urea, creatinine and potassium ,and significant decrease in total protein, albumin and Na level . A significant decrease was also observed in Hb and PCV values in the group treated with 200 mg/kg Bwt, while no significant changes were observed in the group treated with 50 mg and 100 mg/kg Bwt. Histopathological examination showed haemorrhage and degenerative changes in kidney and liver of the group treated with 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg B wt . These results suggested that the toxic effect of potassium bromate were more sever at higher doses. | en_US |
