Abstract
The present study is primarily, concerned with the Amhra nationality and its role in the nationalities conflict in Ethiopia and the extent of its effect on the political reality of Ethiopia . as well as the effects of nationalities' conflict on the stability of Ethiopia . The researcher used the descriptive methodology to describe the political and social reality of Ethiopia . and the historical methodology to study the history of Ethiopia and its nationalities . The analytical method was used to analyze and discuss the historical , political and social events in Ethiopia for the purpose of reaching the study's findings . With respect to the tools used for data collection , the researcher relied on published and unpublished sources such as books , references ,specialized researches , periodical ,scientific papers ,reports , lectures and interviews . Regarding the theoretical framework ,the study discussed the concepts of "nationality" and "conflict" through tracing the historical development of the issue of nationality in general along with discussing the theories concerned with nationalities' conflicts . Moreover, the study traced the emergence and the historical development of the Amhra and the modern state of Ethiopia that are viewed as a single entity via stating the historical origins of the Amhra , the modern Ethiopian state and the development of its political system . The study focused on the regime of Emperor Haile Silasse, which is considered the most important era in Ethiopia , and witnessed conflict among nationalities .In this regard , the study concentrated its discussion on analyzing the policies and tactics adopted by Hiale Silasse to dominate political power in Ethiopia . As part of its aims, the study stated the consequences of the collapse of Hiale Silasse's regime upon the Ethiopian political reality . The study analyzed the Derg regime to illustrate the continued domination of the Amhra nationality undr that regime , which was over thrown by the revolution led by the Ethiopian people Revolutionery Democratic Front . The revolution ended the political hegemony of the Amhra and brought to power a new political elite by the Tigrie nationality . Further more , the study analyzed the attempts by the new regime to replace amhra cultural hegemony and the degree of its success or failure in light of the entrenched and deep rooted amharzation of the Ethiopian societu and therefore the possibilities of the continuation of the nationalities conflict under the new regime. Finally ,the study made significant recommendation : The new global order should be given attention due to its direct effect on the foreign policy of any state , the historical and cultural component of the Ethiopian state should be put into consideration due to its effects on the international developments and political relations. Military capabilities, efficiency of political and diplomatic institutions and propaganda should be also given consideration because they are considered as key factors that strengthen the state . Religious freedom should be guaranteed and ethnic minorities and groups should not be isolated . Efforts should be exerted to Keep away from interfering in the affairs of the neighboring countries of Horn of Africa.
