Abstract
The study found out that productivity could be increased together with efficiency in a better way than the present situation at (B) shop in Mechanical Transport Corporation, after an applied study was conducted for work methods and work measurement in the work shop. Some modifications have been done in the management and operations of the workshop, such as, the introduction of the diagnosis devices at the inspection section, the administrative subordination of the subsidiary workshops with the (B) shop, the regular provision of spare parts, the guarantee of payment of maintenance costs and secondment of an accountant for the workshop. After the application of the improvements, the operations were reduced from 22 to 18 and the time for maintenance was reduced by more than 50%. This had led to doubling production to more than 100%, as compared to the status quo. There are no administrative or technical complications to the implementation of the proposed system, which was tried on 7 various machines. No additional financial obligations incurred. The results were reached by the research on (B) shop could be applied to all similar workshops, because the system of work and administration is the same, with the special attention to the special conditions of some workshops in the other states. Similar studies could be conducted about the other maintenance activities. This will complete the partial, rehabilitation, which would lead to a shift in development on the total level of the corporation. The technical and engineering remedies for the development of the situation at (B) shop and subsidiary workshops, the new methods of the maintenance and the technical diagnosis were adopted, together with a new system of administration and setting new standards for determining efficiency. The study is divided into five chapters: Chapter one; covered the significance and nature of the study. Chapter two; dealt with the analysis and evaluation of the reality in (B) shop and the subsidiary workshops. Chapter three; contained the previous studies about the beginning and development techniques of the work study and studies the technical and engineering aspects of the workshop. Chapter four; discussed an applied study of work methods and measurements at (B) shop. Chapter five; contained the findings and the recommendations reached.
