Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the biochemical changes
related to renal function in kalaazar patients pre and post treatment, using
serum creatinine and urea as indicators of renal function.
Thirty Sudanese kalaazar patients were used in this study,
compared to twenty healthy controls.
The study revealed high serum creatinine and urea levels in
untreated kalaazar patients compared to the control. Also the level of
serum total protein was high, while serum albumin level was lower in
untreated kalaazar patients compared to the control.
In treated kalaazar patients there was a significant reduction in both
serum creatinine and urea levels after treatment compared to the pretreatment
level.
