Abstract
Twenty-five accessions of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) were evaluated over two years (1998/89-1989/90) in a partially balanced 5x5 lattice design. Data on 17 plant characters were collected. Genotypic and phenotypic correlations between different traits were determined. Grain yield/ plant showed significant positive phenotypic associations with its components; namely, number of podded nodes/plant number of seeds/ pod, number of pods/plant and 100-seed weight. Yield components exhibited significant positive phenotypic and genotypic associations with each other, except number of seeds/pod, 100-seed weight and number of branches/plant, which showed negative associations. Positive significant phenotypic association between grain yield/unit area and grain yield/plant was also observed. The yield components, which had close association with grain yield, could be used as indicators in selection for yield. However, special consideration should be given to the traits, which are negatively associated with each other.
