Abstract
This experiment was carried out under laboratory condition at Shambat, Department of crop protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Khartoum. The study aimed to investigate the potential of Hargel plant leaves (powder and water extract) and Neem seeds (powder and water extract) against an important pest of stored cereal grain (sorghum) in Sudan, namely khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium Everts) .Mortality of the 3rd instar larvae was considered as indicator to evaluate the efficacy of each product. The obtained data revealed promising activities of Hargel leaves (powder and water extract) at different concentrations (2.5%, 5% and 10%) against the tested larvae were 9.35%, 6.97% and 16.59% for powder and 7.17%, 3.89% and 9.54 respectively compared to the control for seven days. The results indicated that the Neem seeds product in all concentrations caused high (15.65%, 18.48% and 29.32% respectively) mortality against the tested larval instars. Also the mortality percentage of the tested larvae by Hargel plant leaves and Neem seed (water extract and powder) increased with the increase of concentrations. Generally, the results indicated that the lethal effect of Neem was higher (29.32%) than that of Hargel plant 16.59% and 9.54% for powder and water extract respectively on khapra beetle
