Geotechnical Properties of the Nubian Mudstone and Weak Sandstone

Abstract

The Nubian Sandstone formation occupies a ranging between 25. 7% and 28. 1% of the total surface area of the Sudan. Large areas of the development part of Sudan are covered with this Nubian Sandstone formation especially the mudstone and weak sandstones. This study is concerned with the Nubian formations geotechnical properties of such developed or would be developed parts of Sudan. The objective of this work is to make start in providing an engineering understanding of the formation and to provide some data to give the designers of engineering works, an insight of its properties. The geotechnical properties such as geology, mineralogical composition and physical properties have been identified, In addition shear strength, deformation and swelling properties have also been studied
