Methods: This a quasi-experimental study (one group) conducted at Sinnar Teaching Hospital ,total coverage technique was used when selecting the sample size. Forty five nurses were included. The study included three parts: in the first part data was collected by using the questionnair and observational checklists; to test Nurses knowledge concerning tracheostomy care and to assess their practice towards tracheostomy care. The second part included the implementation of the education training program developed by the researcher as a comprehensive education package, to educate the nurses who provide care for patients with tracheostomy and working in surgical wards, trauma , emergency department and intensive care units. The program aimed to give participants necessary knowledge and practical skills on a safe, and standards care of patients with tracheostomy. It was designed on power point format and performed by the researcher in a period of four weeks in (32 sessions). The participants were divided during the implementation of the program into four groups in practical sessions. The third part, the education program was evaluated by using the same tools which were used in the first part of the study. Then three months after completion of the education program; pre and post test results was compared for each participant towards knowledge and skills . Results: Forty four participants wer included in the the study , most of the them were females 28 (62.2% ) The knowledge scores in tracheostomy care elements before intervention program ranged from 2.2% to 46.7%. When compared to the posttest the scores of knowledge increased to 57.8% in some items and to (88.9%) in others. There were significant differences between the mean score of practical items in tracheostomy care before intervention program and the mean score after the intervention program (P = 0.00) in all items. Conclusion: The designed education training program showed high significant improvement of knowledge and practice of the studied group in the posttest in comparison to pre test knowledge and practice.enEducational Training ProgramTracheostomy CareNurses’ KnowledgeSkillsSennar Teaching HospitalEffect of an Educational Training Program in Tracheostomy Care on Nurses’ Knowledge and Skills at Sennar Teaching Hospital 2015Thesis
